Oral Surgery in Appin & Wollondilly

Tooth Extractions, Wisdom Teeth, Implants & Sedation Options

Oral surgery sounds heavier than it usually is. Most procedures we do at Appin Dental Surgery, like a routine tooth extraction or a wisdom tooth removal, are completed in under an hour with local anaesthetic and a few days of gentle recovery. More involved work, like dental implant placement or pre-implant bone grafting, takes more planning, and we walk you through every stage before anything starts.

Appin Dental Surgery is a QIP-accredited dental practice on Appin Road, rated 5.0 on Google by 95+ patients. Our principal dentist brings over 19 years of clinical experience to every surgical case, and we're backed by the 30+ year track record of our sister clinic, Bradbury Dental Surgery, in the Macarthur region.

We see patients from across Appin, Wilton, Picton, Douglas Park, Menangle, Tahmoor, Camden, Campbelltown, and the wider Wollondilly Shire.

Oral Surgery Services at Appin Dental Surgery

"Oral surgery" covers any procedure that involves the surgical or invasive treatment of teeth, gums, jaw, or surrounding tissue. Some surgical work is straightforward and done with just local anaesthetic. Other work needs careful planning, imaging, and sometimes sedation.

At our Appin clinic we handle the most common types in-house. For procedures that need IV sedation or oral and maxillofacial specialist input, we coordinate with our sister clinic Bradbury Dental Surgery in Campbelltown.

Ensuring Your Comfort During Oral Surgery

At Appin Dental Surgery, your comfort and peace of mind are paramount. We utilise various strategies and a genuinely gentle approach to ensure your oral surgery experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Here’s how we prioritise your comfort:

Effective Local Anaesthesia

We thoroughly numb the surgical area with precise local anaesthetic, ensuring you feel no pain during the procedure itself.

Gentle & Precise Techniques

Our experienced dentists perform all surgical procedures with the utmost care, minimising discomfort and promoting faster healing.

Supportive Environment

Our clinic provides a welcoming, calming space designed to help you feel at ease throughout your visit.

Relaxation Options

For those needing extra help relaxing, we offer oral sedatives. For deeper relaxation during more complex procedures, Intravenous (IV) Sedation is also available.

Clear Communication

We explain every step, encourage your questions, and regularly check in on you during treatment to ensure your comfort.

Post-Operative Comfort

Before you leave, we provide clear instructions and recommendations for managing any post-procedure discomfort.

Sedation Options for Anxious Patients

For patients who require a deeper level of relaxation during their oral surgery, Intravenous (IV) Sedation is a safe and effective option we provide. Often referred to as "sleep dentistry" or "twilight sedation," it's ideal for those with significant dental anxiety or for longer, more complex procedures.

Administered by a qualified sedation practitioner, IV Sedation allows you to remain conscious but deeply relaxed, often with little to no memory of the treatment. Your comfort and safety are continuously monitored throughout the procedure.

We will discuss if this option is suitable for your specific needs during your consultation, providing all the information you need to make an informed decision about your comfort.

Faqs

  • Any surgical or invasive procedure on the teeth, gums, jaw, or surrounding tissue. The most common types we see are tooth extractions, wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement, and bone grafting before implants.

  • Most patients are back to normal eating within 5 to 7 days after a routine extraction or wisdom tooth removal. Implant healing takes longer because the bone needs time to fuse to the implant. We give you a written recovery timeline at your appointment.

  • Most procedures are done under local anaesthetic, where you're awake and the area is fully numbed. For longer or more anxiety-inducing procedures, oral sedation is available at our Appin clinic, and IV sedation (sleep dentistry) is available through our sister clinic in Campbelltown.

  • Oral surgery cost depends on the procedure (extraction vs wisdom tooth vs implant), the complexity of the case, whether sedation is used, and whether health fund cover applies. We'll give you a written quote before any treatment is booked. Most major Australian funds cover a portion under Major Dental.

  • The procedure itself isn't painful because the area is fully numbed. Some discomfort and swelling for 2 to 4 days afterwards is normal and over-the-counter pain relief usually handles it. We'll prescribe stronger relief if a procedure warrants it.

  • No. You can book directly with our team for a consultation. If your case needs specialist oral and maxillofacial input, we'll coordinate that referral as part of your treatment plan.

  • When administered by a qualified sedation practitioner with continuous monitoring, IV sedation has a strong safety record. The sedation team at Bradbury Dental Surgery is qualified, the equipment is purpose-built, and you're monitored every minute of the procedure.
