Invisalign Treatment in Appin
Clear aligners planned with 3D precision. Straighten your smile without brackets, wires, or food rules.
Invisalign uses a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners to shift your teeth into the right position over time. No metal brackets, no diet restrictions, no wire-tightening visits. At Appin Dental Surgery, every Invisalign case is planned with a 3D digital scan and ClinCheck® software, so you'll see a preview of your new smile before we order a single tray.

What Is Invisalign, and Why Do Patients Keep Choosing It Over Braces?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear, custom-made aligner trays to move your teeth into the right position over time. Each tray is slightly different from the last. You wear each one for about 1 to 2 weeks, then swap to the next in the sequence. By the end, your teeth have shifted into the exact position we mapped out on day one. The trays are made from a flexible BPA-free material called SmartTrack®. They fit snugly over your teeth. Most people around you won't even notice you're wearing them.
The Technology That Makes It Predictable

3D Digital Scan
Your first appointment starts with a 3D intraoral scan of your mouth. No gooey impressions, no gag reflex, no messy trays. The scan takes about 10 minutes.

ClinCheck® Smile Preview
We use ClinCheck® planning software to map out every tooth movement, step by step. Before you commit to treatment, you'll see a 3D preview of your final smile. If you don't love the result, we adjust the plan until you do.

SmartTrack® Material
The aligners are made from a proprietary SmartTrack plastic that applies gentle, steady pressure across your arch. It's more comfortable than older hard-plastic aligners and moves teeth more predictably.

What Invisalign Can Actually Correct?
Invisalign treats the full range of common orthodontic issues in adults and teens. We've seen it work on cases that patients assumed needed braces.
Crowded Teeth: When there isn't enough space along the arch, teeth overlap, twist, or push forward. Invisalign gently widens the arch and nudges crowded teeth into line. In tight cases, we may need to do a small amount of interproximal reduction (IPR) to create space, or occasionally recommend an extraction if crowding is severe.
Gaps Between Teeth (Diastema): Small gaps can usually be closed with Invisalign alone. For very small gaps or cases where the tooth shape needs changing too, dental bonding or porcelain veneers may be a faster option. We'll tell you honestly which approach fits your case.
Overbite, Underbite, and Crossbite: Invisalign corrects most mild-to-moderate bite issues by coordinating upper and lower arch movement. Complex skeletal cases may still need braces or an orthognathic referral, and we'll be upfront about this at your consultation.
Open Bite: When your front teeth don't meet when you bite down, chewing and speaking can suffer. Invisalign closes open bites by guiding the front teeth down into proper contact.
General Misalignment: Twisted, rotated, or uneven teeth that don't fit any single category. Invisalign handles most of it.
The Real-Life Advantages of Invisalign
Patients overwhelmingly choose Invisalign because it fits seamlessly into a busy, modern lifestyle. It offers significant advantages over fixed, traditional braces:

Nearly Invisible
Clear trays sit tight against your teeth. In meetings, in photos, on Zoom, most people never notice. Patients who've avoided braces for years because of the metal-mouth look finally feel okay saying yes to Invisalign.

Eat Whatever You Want
Take the trays out at mealtimes and eat normally. Steak, crusty sourdough, popcorn, corn on the cob, chewy lollies, crunchy apples, all fine. With braces, these foods are off-limits for 18 to 36 months. With Invisalign, you eat them the same day you start treatment.

More Comfortable Than You Expect
The smooth plastic sits flush against your teeth. No sharp brackets, no wires poking the inside of your cheek, no ulcers. You'll feel mild pressure for a day or two each time you swap trays, that's it.

Easier to Keep Clean
Pop the trays out, brush and floss like normal, put them back in. With braces, food gets trapped around brackets and between wires, and many patients finish treatment with decalcification marks or decay. Invisalign sidesteps all of that.

Shorter, Less Frequent Appointments
We see you every 6 to 8 weeks for a quick progress check and to hand over your next set of trays. No long wire-tightening appointments. Most check-ins are under 20 minutes.
Dental Braces vs Invisalign: An Honest Comparison
Wondering about dental braces vs Invisalign? Both work. The right choice depends on your case, your lifestyle, and what matters most to you. Here's how they stack up across ten decision factors:
Factor | Invisalign (Clear Aligners) | Traditional Braces (Fixed) |
|---|---|---|
Appearance | Nearly invisible clear plastic | Visible metal or ceramic brackets and wires |
Removable? | Yes, at mealtimes and for brushing | No, fixed to teeth for the full treatment |
Comfort | Smooth plastic, mild pressure on day 1-2 of each new tray | Wires and brackets can cause ulcers, rubbing, and cheek irritation |
Oral hygiene | Brush and floss normally, no extra tools needed | Special brushes and floss threaders required to clean around wires |
Food restrictions | None, you remove the trays to eat | Avoid hard, sticky, and chewy foods for the whole treatment |
Appointment frequency | Every 6 to 8 weeks, short visits | Every 4 to 6 weeks, longer wire-adjustment visits |
Compliance required | High, you must wear trays 2022 hours a day | Low, the braces are always on |
Case suitability | Mild to moderately complex cases, most common bite issues | All cases including severe skeletal problems |
Average treatment time | 6 to 24 months (12 months typical) | 18 to 36 months |
Material | BPA-free SmartTrack clear thermoplastic | Stainless steel or ceramic brackets, metal wires |

You'll meet our team, talk through what you want to change about your smile, and get a quick dental check to confirm your gums and teeth are healthy enough to start. We then run a 3D intraoral scan of your teeth. No impressions, no gagging, no waiting weeks for moulds.
We use your scan to build a personalised treatment plan in ClinCheck®. You'll come back to see the 3D preview of exactly how your teeth will move, step by step, and what your final smile will look like. Nothing gets ordered until you're happy with the plan.
Your aligners arrive from Align Technology direct. We'll fit your first tray, place any small tooth-coloured SmartForce attachments you need, and walk you through exactly how to wear, clean, and store your aligners.
Wear each tray for the time we specify (usually 1 to 2 weeks). Swap to the next set on schedule. Keep wear time at 20 to 22 hours per day. Take trays out for meals and brushing only.
Quick visits to our Appin clinic. We'll check your teeth are tracking to plan, hand over your next set of trays, and answer any questions. Most appointments take under 20 minutes.
Once your final tray comes out, we fit you with clear retainers. Wear them full-time for the first 3 months, then nights only, forever. This is non-negotiable if you want your results to hold.

Health Fund Coverage and Payment Options for Your Invisalign Treatment
We think you should know exactly what to expect before you walk in. That's why we give you a full itemised quote at your consultation, once we've scanned your teeth and built your ClinCheck® plan, so the figure you see is the figure for your case, not a one-size-fits-all number.

How to Care for Your Invisalign Trays, During and After Treatment?
Good results come from consistent wear and consistent cleaning. None of this is hard. It just needs to happen every day.
During Treatment
Wear Your Aligners 20 to 22 Hours a Day
Aligners only work when they're on your teeth. Take them out for meals, snacks, and anything other than plain water, then put them straight back in. Hit 22 hours on most days and your treatment runs on schedule. Drop below 18 hours regularly and your teeth stop tracking to the plan, which means extra aligners and a longer timeline.
Expect Mild Pressure on Day 1–2 of Each New Tray
The first 24 to 48 hours in a new set feels tight. That's your teeth moving. Most patients find it much easier than the sore days after a wire tightening. Paracetamol handles it if you need it. Call us if the pain is sharp or lasts more than 3 days, that's not normal.
Clean Your Trays Every Time You Take Them Out
Rinse them in cool water (never hot, it warps the plastic). Brush them gently with a soft toothbrush and a dab of mild soap or a specific aligner cleaner. Skip toothpaste, most toothpastes contain abrasives that scratch the trays and make them cloudy.
Brush Your Teeth Before Putting Trays Back In
If you pop trays back in over food particles, you're trapping bacteria against your enamel for hours. Cavities and bad breath follow. A quick brush or at least a thorough rinse is enough.
Look After Your Attachments and Elastics
Most Invisalign cases use small tooth-coloured SmartForce attachments bonded to a few teeth. They give the trays extra grip for tricky movements. They come off at the end of treatment. Some bite-correction cases also use tiny elastics. We'll show you exactly how and when to wear them.
After Your Treatment: The Retainer Phase
Wear Your Retainer, Forever
Teeth want to drift back to where they started. That's biology, not a design flaw. After your final aligner, you'll get a set of clear Vivera retainers. Wear them full-time for the first 3 months, then every night after that, for life. Losing the retainer habit is the single biggest reason Invisalign results slip.
Keep Up Your Regular Check-Ups
Book back in every 6 months for a scale and clean and a quick retainer check. We catch any early shifting or fit issues before they become visible.
Protect Your New Smile
Play contact sports? We'll make you a custom mouthguard that fits over your retainer. Grind at night? An occlusal splint protects both your teeth and your retainer from wear.
Call Us Early If Something's Wrong
Lost aligner, cracked retainer, new gap opening up, or a tooth feeling loose? Call (02) 9068 1369 the same day. Catching problems within 24 to 48 hours usually means a small fix. Leaving it for a week can mean starting parts of the treatment over.

For mild to moderate crowding, gaps, and most common bite issues, yes. For very complex skeletal cases, traditional braces may still be the better option. We'll tell you honestly at your consultation which option suits your case best.
You'll feel mild pressure for the first 1 to 2 days after switching to each new aligner set. That's your teeth moving. Most patients find Invisalign noticeably more comfortable than the wire-tightening soreness of braces. Paracetamol handles it if needed.
20 to 22 hours, every day. You only take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush your teeth. If you drop below 18 hours regularly, your treatment stalls and your timeline gets longer.
No. Always take them out for meals and for any drink other than plain water. Food particles trap bacteria against your enamel, and coloured drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine stain the trays.
Call us on (02) 9068 1369 straight away. We'll usually ask you to wear your previous set or move to the next set while we order a replacement. Don't go without any aligner, teeth start drifting within days.

Yes, for life. Teeth naturally drift back towards their original positions. You'll get clear retainers with every treatment plan, wear them full-time for the first 3 months, then nights only, forever.
Yes. Invisalign Teen includes built-in compliance indicators (small blue dots that fade with wear) so parents can confirm wear time. It also includes free replacement aligners for lost or broken trays. Most teens in Wollondilly schools find it far less socially stressful than metal braces.
